Competition Rules
The Monte-Carlo Television Festival, backed by the national producers unions, created The Producer Award for TV Series, a unique international competition, to reward a producer and/or an executive producer for his/their production(s) in drama and/or comedy series. The Awards will be presented during the Gold Nymph Awards Ceremony of the 47th Monte-Carlo Television Festival on Thursday, 14th June 2007.
The Producer Award for TV Series includes two categories:
- Comedy series
- Drama series
The Gold Nymphs will be awarded only to (a) qualified, credited producer(s), notwithstanding that the production company may have accorded such credit to other persons as well.
A producer shall be deemed eligible if he or she actually engages in, and has ultimate responsibility for, the creation, selling, development and/or production of a project.
In production, a producer must have final approval in such areas as determination of the shooting script, hiring of the director and other key creative personnel, i.e. casting, budget and final cut.
A producer is eligible in both categories. When a programme is entered, the eligible producers who meet the above criteria should be listed on the entry form.
All questions of eligibility are the final decision of each member of the pre-selection committee for the nominees of their own country.
Article 1:
THE PRODUCER AWARD FOR TV SERIES
The Producer Award for TV Series rewards a producer and/or an executive producer for a drama and/or comedy series telecast between the period 1st July 2006 and 30th June 2007. It is open to any producer and/or executive producer that fills the criteria listed in Article 3.
Series are defined as multiple episodes in which theme, content and main characters are presented under the same title and have continuity of production supervision.
Each episode must be concluded by stand-alone storylines.
The series submitted should include:
- In the ‘Comedy category: a minimum of 6 episode of at least 26 minutes each;
- In the ‘Drama’ category: a minimum of 6 episodes of at least 52 minutes each.
Children’s programmes are not eligible.
Article 2:
THE PRE-SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Producer Award for TV Series is organized by the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The nominees will be designated by a pre-selection committee comprising of representatives from the following Producers Unions:

- Graham Benson, PACT (United Kingdom)
- Christian Dorsch, German Films GmbH (Germany)
- Klaus Hansen, Producenterne (Denmark)
- Jacques Peskine, USPA (France)
- Claire Samson, APTF (Canada)
- Chiara Sbarigia, APT (Italy)
- Vance Van Petten, Producers Guild of America (USA)
- Per-Erik Wallin, STVP (Sweden)
- Michael von Wolkenstein, FAFO (Austria)
The pre-selection committee is open to all unions should they wish to join.
Article 3:
THE PRE-SELECTION
In each country, the representative of the professional producers unions mentioned in Article 2 will designate - for each one of the two categories - one to three producers whose productions will be judged according to the following criteria:
a) quality of script
b) quality of production
c) programme must be telecast in a minimum of five countries between 1st July 2006 and 30th June 2007.
However, in a country where a TV series do not fill the criteria mentioned in c) above (i.e. telecast in at least five countries), the representatives of the producers unions may nevertheless nominate one to two producers (as opposed to one to three).
All entry forms must be submitted no later than 16th February 2007.
The nominees will be designated by 7th March 2007.
All the information submitted to the pre-selection committee members is strictly private and confidential and will not, under any circumstances, be disclosed. The committee's decision will be final and irrevocable.
Article 4:
THE JURY
The winners of The Producer Award for TV Series will be elected by a jury comprised of 5 members designated by the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The jury president, designated by the Executive Vice President of the Festival, will be responsible for conducting the deliberations of the jury. The jury members will have a duty to preserve secrecy and must respect the confidentiality of the deliberations outside the voting area.
Article 5:
METHOD OF SELECTION
The jury will deliberate from the list of nominees designated by the pre-selection committee.
The jury will mark each producer and/or executive producer out of 20 according to the following criteria:
a) Mark 0 to 7 for quality of script,
b) Mark 0 to 9 for quality of production,
c) Mark 0 to 4 for the number of countries in which the program is telecast between 1st July 2006 and 30th June 2007. according to the following scale:
• 1 country: 1
• 2 - 8 countries: 2
• 9 and more countries: 4
The Gold Nymphs will be awarded to the producer and/or executive producer with the highest number of points.
Article 6:
THE NOMINEES
Nominated producers will be required to send to the Monte-Carlo Television Festival five multi-zone DVD’s (one for each jury member) containing two episodes of their choice taken from the current season. The episodes must be subtitled in English (if applicable, i.e. when the original language is not English).
The nominees will also be required to send a Digital BETA cassette containing 30 second sequences suitable for broadcast in the event of winning an award for each of the categories: “Best Producer”, “Best European Producer”, “Best Actor” or “Best Actress”.
The nominees agree to be present - or to send a representative
- for the Gold Nymph Awards Ceremony scheduled on Thursday 14th June 2007 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco
Article 7:
PRIZES
In each one of the two categories ('Drama series' and 'Comedy series') the following prizes will be awarded:
a) One Gold Nymph for « Best Producer » (awarded to a producer among all the nominees)
b) One Gold Nymph for « Best European Producer» (awarded to a European nominee)
c) One Gold Nymph for « Best Actor » (among all the nominated series)
d) One Gold Nymph for « Best Actress » (among all the nominated series)
The winners will be designated by the jury.
Article 8:
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITY
The Monte-Carlo Television Festival will be responsible for the administrative organization of The Producer Award for TV Series.
A representative of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival will take part in the pre-selection committee meetings but will not have the right to vote.
The Executive Vice President of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival is responsible for the good running and organization of the competition and for the cancellation of proceedings undertaken to designate a winner should these not be respected.
Article 9:
PUBLIC PRESENTATION OF PROGRAMMES
The Organizing Committee certifies that programmes entered for the Competitions will only be screened within the framework of the Festival, that is to say within the territorial boundaries of the Principality of Monaco and during the period from 8th June to 20th June 2007.
Article 10:
PUBLICITY
Organizations or producers responsible for the diffusion or broadcast of the prize-winning programmes undertake to mention, in the credits, and in press releases, the award obtained at the 47th Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
Article 11:
OBSERVANCE OF THE FESTIVAL RULES
Participation by organizations or independent producers as defined in Article 1 implies their total acceptance of the rules.
In the event of any dispute concerning the interpretation of the rules, the French text prevails.
