John W. Hyde
(USA) Vice Chairman - Starz Media

John W. Hyde is vice chairman of Starz Media which includes Starz Animation, Film Roman and the Starz Productions live-action division. In that position IHyde has responsibility for new business, partnership development, and industry and talent relations, as well as management responsibility for Starz Home Entertainment – including the Anchor Bay and Manga brands.
Hyde was named president and COO of Starz Media in 2006, at the time when the company -then known as IDT Entertainment- was acquired by Liberty Media and made an operating unit of Starz, LLC. Prior to that he had been COO of IDT Entertainment and CEO of Film Roman since 1999. Earlier in his career, Hyde worked at or with Universal, Fox, MGM, Columbia, Warner, Disney, and Paramount.
His production credits include the feature films Neverending Story, Short Circuit, 9 1/2 Weeks, Lost Boys and Das Boot, animated series King of the Hill, The Simpsons and Mighty Mouse, and live action TV series Homicide (NBC), Masters Of Horror (Showtime), Masters of Science Fiction (ABC).
Early in his career, Hyde worked at Universal Studios, on everything from the syndicated afternoon rock ‘n’ roll dance program The Lloyd Thaxton Show to Uni Records, home of such artists as Elton John and Neil Diamond. From there he moved to the TV and film production company Filmways, and then to a number of other successful independent production companies.
Hyde is a member of both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences where he has been nominated for 4 Emmys, winning one. He is a former officer and director of The Cousteau Society. He was also a founding member, as well as Vice Chairman and Board member, of the American Film Market. Hyde graduated from New York University with additional international economic studies at Leiden University in Holland.
Starz Media, LLC, is a programming production and distribution company operating worldwide. It includes the Film Roman, Anchor Bay Entertainment, and Manga Entertainment brands. Its units create animated and live-action programming - including theatrical films - and programming created under contract for other media companies. It distributes that programming, and programming acquired from outside producers, through home video retailers, theaters, broadcasters, ad supported and premium television channels, and Internet and wireless video distributors in the US and internationally. Starz Media is an operating unit of Starz, LLC, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Media Corporation that is attributed to Liberty Capital Group.
