Actor from 1963 to 1979
After graduating from the Conservatoire National de Paris, he appeared with Ariane Mnouchkine’s Théâtre du Soleil, then with Paul Planchon’s companies before being cast by Marcel Pagnol to play Marius in his eponymous play.
From 1979 Jean Sagols began collaborating on a number of scripts and screenplays for TV and cinema productions and worked as a senior foreign correspondent reporting on stories such as the Polynesian voyages of the Eryx II, The King’s Route through the Wadi Rum valley etc.
He went on to direct TF1’s summer sagas (Les Cœurs brûlés, Le Vent des moissons, les Grandes marées, Terre indigo, etc…), numerous mini-series (Les Filles du Lido, Villa Vanille, Kantara, L’Agence…), as well as a dozen films for TV (La Dame de cœur, La Grande chasse, Les Fanas du ciné…). He also directed four Franco-American TV productions shot in Miami and New Orleans.
Since 2001 he has held the position of Deputy Executive Director of JLA Productions and overseen the filming of projects such as Navarro, L’Instit etc.
Over the course of his career he has worked with major comedians such as : Annie Girardot, Line Renaud, Bernadette Lafont, Mireille Darc, Marie Laforêt, Véronique Genest, Mathilda May, Christophe Lambert, Richard Berry, Georges Chakiris, David Soul, Francis Huster, Richard Bohringer, etc…
